Dental Implants

Dental Implants

At Arizona Biltmore Dentistry, we sometimes see new patients who are missing one or more of their natural teeth because of tooth decay, periodontal disease or an injury. Up until a few years ago, the only treatment options available for patients with missing teeth were dentures and bridges. But thanks to new innovations in the field of restorative dentistry, those same patients can now come to our Phoenix office and get dental implants so that their smiles look, feel and perform just like new.

If missing teeth have you feeling like you’re missing out on certain things like smiling with confidence, talking with ease, and eating your favorite foods, we can help! At Arizona Biltmore Dentistry, we provide start-to-finish dental implant care to help you get a full, and fully functioning, smile once again. Dental implants are preferred by dentists and patients alike for replacing missing teeth, so come in for a privacy-protected consultation to learn how they can benefit your smile.

What Are Implants?

A dental implant is a titanium replacement tooth root (post) that the dentist inserts directly into a patient’s jaw bone. Once the new root has fused into the bone, it provides a strong foundation upon which the dentist can then attach an artificial tooth that looks just like the surrounding natural teeth.

Dental implants can be used to replace any number of missing teeth. They are strong and secure, so they allow you to get back to doing all the things you could previously with a full set of teeth.

Dental implants consist of three parts:

The implant — a small titanium post that we surgically place into your jawbone.
The abutment — a connector piece that allows us to place a restoration on top of the implant.
The restoration — a crown, bridge, or denture that we design to fit on top of your implant(s) to complete your smile.

At Arizona Biltmore Dentistry, we provide computer-guided implant surgery using our state-of-the-art technology, including 3D cone beam scanning. This allows us to virtually plan your procedure with precision to eliminate guesswork, increase safety, and deliver more effective results.

The Implant Process at Arizona Biltmore Dentistry

The entire implant process takes place over multiple appointments.

We use computer-aided dental implant technologies that eliminate the guesswork and deliver optimal patient safety and aesthetic outcomes. If you’re interested in dental implants, precise 3D cone beam scan images will first be taken to make sure the surrounding tissues are healthy enough to support the implant, and for post placement planning purposes.

We start by taking images to check the health of your jawbone as well as to find and confirm the proper position of the implant. We place the implant(s) during an appointment and then give the implant time to heal over the course of a few months. During this time, the titanium of the implant fuses with the bone, with which it is in contact, giving us a solid foundation for placing your restoration. Once fused, the implant essentially functions as a replacement tooth root.

After healing, we’ll bring you back in to place the abutment and restoration. The type of restoration we use depends on your needs and dental health. We often use a crown or bridge for single-tooth implants, a bridge for patients missing a couple of teeth in a row, and a denture if most or all teeth in an arch are missing.

The Best Option: Benefits of Dental Implants

If you’re a dental implant candidate, you may be wondering if it’s really worth it. Here are some of the benefits of getting dental implants:

Look, feel, and function like natural teeth
Maintain proper face shape
Prevent surrounding teeth from shifting into empty space
They don’t slip around because the implants are permanently fused into the bone
Last a lifetime with proper care – brush and floss like normal
They don’t interfere with speaking like dentures sometimes do
They are very comfortable
You can eat most of your favorite foods without any chewing discomfort
Higher self-esteem

Types of Dental Implants

Our dentists typically use these types of dental implants:

Endosteal - This is the most common type, and titanium endosteal implants are small screws that are surgically placed through the gumline into the patient’s jawbone.
Subperiosteal - In rare situations when a patient’s jawbone isn’t stable enough for an endosteal implant, the dentist will place the implant just under the gumline so that it rests on, or right above, the jawbone.
All-On-4 - All-On-4 dentures, or “Teeth in a Day”, are placed onto four separate dental implant abutments. A Teeth in a Day procedure can be used on a patient’s lower or upper jaw to more quickly restore their smile like new again. At Arizona Biltmore Dentistry, we’ve seen some amazing results in our patients who chose All-On-4 implants.

Denture Stabilization

Do you wear dentures that slip or click, or are generally uncomfortable? Dental implants treatment can help stabilize your denture while also eliminating the need for messy denture adhesives. In order to stabilize your dentures, we will strategically place four to six implants in your jawbone and top the implants with a connecting joint. We will either create a new denture for you with holes that line up with your implants, or we can drill holes into your existing denture. When you want to wear your denture, just line up the holes with the implants and snap it into place. Using implants to stabilize dentures helps stop the slipping and clicking, making it more comfortable than ever before to wear dentures.

Care with Dental Implants

Once your restoration is in place, you’ll be educated about how to properly care for your new implant(s). Those instructions will include brushing and flossing your implants every day just like your natural teeth, avoiding certain foods, and the importance of follow-up office visits every 6 months for exams and professional teeth cleanings. Most dental implant patients tell us that they are very easy to care for, and your new dental implants should last forever with proper care!

Will My Dental Insurance Pay for Implants?

Most dental insurance plans don’t pay for implants, but some medical insurance plans will cover at least some of the costs under the right circumstances. If you are interested in dental implants because of their many advantages, we conveniently offer our patients several affordable payment plan options that accommodate most budgets. If you have any insurance questions, one of our insurance specialists will be happy to assist you.
